Burger chain creates 50 jobs in second premises

A US burger chain is bucking the trend with the opening of a second restaurant in Ireland creating 50 jobs.

The Counter burger chain -- which already employs 50 people in Dundrum Town Centre in Dublin -- has opened a second premises on Suffolk Street in the city centre, creating 50 new positions.

A spokesman for the Californian-based chain says it is also looking into further expansion possibilities in Ireland.

Meanwhile, the loss of up to 40 jobs at a manufacturing plant in Co Clare may only be a short-term measure and the company could re-employ workers before the end of the year.

Ei Electronics (Ei) will let up to 11pc of its workforce go in the coming months.

Ei is seeking between 30 and 40 redundancies from its 350-strong workforce.

Management at Ei have told staff that it will now enter a 30-day consultation process. A statement on the job losses is expected today.
