The budding Rose of Tralee contestants will be wined and dined at the first Taste of Kildare Food Festival on the eve of the Rose Tour.

The roses were in the Lily White county yesterday, kayaking and painting on the banks of the canal beside the Cliff at Lyons estate.

Current Rose of Tralee, Kirsten Mate Maher, was on hand with Eoin Burke at the announcement that Kildare will once again host the Rose Tour en route to the 60-year celebrations of the Rose of Tralee International Festival in August.

The 32 young women from Ireland, the USA, Canada, Britain, Germany, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East will enjoy a "behind the scenes" tour of a few key Kildare flagship locations.

The Rose of Tralee will be crowned in the Festival Dome live on RTÉ One on Tuesday, August 27.
