Brothers prove model champions for Community Games as they strike gold
Community Games is well known all over Ireland for giving young people their first taste of parish, town or county pride on a national stage.
It can give family pride too, which is the case for brothers Jack (14), Shane (11) and Morgan Leahy (9) from Cratloe, Co Clare, who all claimed national gold in the model-making this weekend.
Jack, winner in the U16 category for his model of a gymnast, was the first to take up the hobby, according to mum Fiona.
"Jack started first and then he won bronze the first time and the younger two decided that this is something we could get into.
"The good thing about the Community Games is that it's a school activity so they encourage you to take part and everyone tries things and you find out if you're good at different things.
"Jack found out he has great patience and it's three hours, you sit down and shape it into something so it does take patience," said Fiona.
He now has a bronze, a silver and three golds while Shane is hot on his heels with a silver and two golds.
Youngest brother Morgan has already won two national gold medals. The older two also made the chess county finals this year while Shane recently returned from a rugby trip in Italy and currently plays with Old Crescent RFC.
Around 4,000 young people took part in the Aldi Community Games in the University of Limerick at the weekend with competitions ranging from cross-country running to indoor soccer and dancing.
