An elderly brother and sister were killed in an early morning house fire.
The 88-year-old man and his 85-year-old sister died after the blaze broke out in their home in East Ferry, near Midleton, Co Cork at about 5am.
A garda spokesman said investigations are being carried out to establish the cause of the fire but is not believed to be suspicious.
Relatives are being notified.
Gardai said the pair died at the scene and post mortems will take place later.
Witnesses to the fire are asked to contact Midleton Garda Station.
The couple were named locally as Michael and Nora Coleman, who had lived in the area all their lives.
Ted Murphy, former mayor of Midleton, said: "It's sad, very sad, to go this way near the end of their lives.
"They were a nice, quiet country family."
Meanwhile, a man was killed in a separate fire in Bray, Co Wicklow.
He was found dead after a blaze destroyed a prefab building behind the Anglican church in Church Road in the town at about 3am.
