Brave Ava (7) wins right to use cannabis medicine here
A mother says her Christmas wish has come true after being granted a special licence for her little girl to get medicinal cannabis treatment here.
Vera Twomey said she plans to return to Ireland with her daughter Ava (7) after the way was cleared for the child to receive cannabis oil treatments in her native Cork.
The family had brought Ava to Holland last summer so she could get treatment for a life-threatening condition, Dravet syndrome, which sees her suffer severe seizures on a daily basis. At one point, Ava suffered 16 seizures in 36 hours.
Ms Twomey thanked the thousands of people who had backed the family's three-year campaign to get the treatment in Ireland: "We have some really, really good news, Ava has been granted the licence for the medical cannabis and we are coming home."
