Boy (8) died from heart condition

AN eight-year-old boy died in a swimming pool in France as a result of an undiagnosed heart condition, an inquest has heard.

The heartbroken father of Jack Brady, of Solomon Court, Letterkenny, Co Donegal, told how he found his young son floating in a swimming pool after he left him for just two minutes.

Dr John Brady had been holidaying with his wife and four young sons in France when the tragedy happened the day after they arrived at the Holiday Green mobile home park in Frejus on Cote D'Azur last May.

Jack, who played rugby, soccer and Gaelic, had taken 30 swimming lessons.

Letterkenny Coroner's Court was told that on the day of the accident the Brady family had been swimming.

Jack had been with his dad at the steps of the main swimming pool. Dr Brady, a psychiatrist based in Derry, decided to visit the jacuzzi but when he returned two minutes later he could not find his eldest son.

He began searching the centre looking for Jack but a minute later mum Dorothy, a midwife at Letterkenny General Hospital, spotted him floating in the water.

Jack was given CPR and other medical assistance before being rushed by air ambulance to a hospital in Marseilles.

Doctors at the hospital told the boy's parents that tests revealed that very little water had been found in his lungs. They suspected he may have suffered a cardiac arrhythmia or an undiagnosed heart condition.
