Boy (5) injured by pipe bomb he picked up outside his Wicklow home

A FIVE-year-old boy was injured today after picking up a pipe bomb outside a house in Co Wicklow.

The child was taken to Crumlin Children's Hospital with injuries to his hand following the incident at around 8.30am.

It is understood the object, which gardai described as a viable device, was left outside a property on Sycamore Drive in Newtownmountkennedy.

The area has been sealed off for a technical examination and gardai have appealed for information.
