Boy (14) in serious condition after assault in Tipperary

Another teen has been arrested for questioning

A teenage boy is in a serious condition after being assaulted in Tipperary.

The 14 year old boy suffered serious injuries in the assault in Tipperary town shortly before 11pm last night and is now being treated in South Tipperary General Hospital.

It is understood the boy is in a serious but stable condition with family members maintaining a vigil by his hospital bedside.

He is being treated for head injuries.

Gardaí have arrested another teen for questioning in relation to the incident and he is being questioned by gardai.

The youth is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

He can be questioned for an initial period of 12 hours which can be extended to 24 hours.

The investigation into the assault is being led by Detective Inspector Paddy O'Callaghan.

Gardaí say the incident occurred in the Lakelands areas of Tipperary town shortly before 11pm.

It is understood a number of youths were in the area at the time.

The scene was immediately sealed off by Gardaí to allow for a full technical examination.

Gardaí have now appealed for anyone who was in the Lakelands area at the time and who witnessed anything suspicious to contact them.
