AN 11-year-old boy who was knocked down by a truck has passed away after doctors tried in vain to save his life for a week.

Elrich Caputo, from Troytown Heights on the outskirts of Navan town in Meath, was hit by the truck as he crossed a road at Abbeylands South in Navan last Sunday at approximately 9.50am. He was going to play a football match at the time.

Elrich was airlifted to Tallaght Hospital and transferred to Temple Street Hospital. He died in hospital on Sunday afternoon - one week after the collision.

The youngster was a footballer with Parkvilla FC and the club last week put a photo of Elrich on its Facebook page along with a message.

"Please keep Elrich Caputo and his family in your thoughts and prayers. He was injured on his way to his match this morning," it read.
