Boost for bubbly sales as Lotto couple collect jackpot
CHAMPAGNE sales in the midlands are expected to peak today as the country's newest millionaires pick up their jackpot and celebrate with their extended families.
A mini-cavalcade of at least one Rolls Royce and one 52-seater coach will carry happy couple Carol Loran and Kevin Geoghegan, as well as their relatives and friends, to Dublin for 1pm today where they will collect their €10.5m cheque.
Corks are expected to fly as the merry band make their way to and from the city, with a grand gala party planned in Mullingar for their return mid-afternoon.
Between them, the happy couple, who only recently began dating, have eight children. Kevin also has four brothers, five sisters and an elderly mother, all of whom are due to get a share of his winnings.
Carol and Kevin will travel in ultimate luxury in the well-sprung comfort of a Rolls Royce, supplied by Boylesports, where Carol works.
Meanwhile, well-wishing family and friends can party all the way to Dublin and back in the hired coach.
Yesterday, Kevin spent the afternoon kitting out the children with some new clothes so they will look their best for the trip. "I can buy what I like now," said Kevin.
Later, he was planning to meet up with his brother Oliver, who had flown in from Portugal, and his sister Imelda, who had travelled from Manchester for the big day.
All but one of the 10 siblings from his family will be reunited in time to celebrate Kevin's fortune.
And like Carol, who has promised her five sons their first family holiday, Kevin is thinking about jetting off to Alicante for a few days in the sun.
