TAOISEACH Enda Kenny has described the Boston marathon bombing as "an act of insanity" as he sympathised with the people of a city he said was "so Irish".
"This is an act of insanity when so many people enjoyed the preparation for that wonderful race and the occasion itself," he said.
"We sympathise with the people of Boston. Many Irish people were affected one way or another in a city that is so Irish," he added.
Meanwhile, John Hennessey Niland, charge d'affaires at the US Embassy in Dublin, also reflected on the link between Ireland and the people of Boston.
He said: "Having been here in Ireland for the last three years, I know the special relationship that the Irish have with the city of Boston."
