The body of a man has been recovered in the search for a missing diver off the coast of Co Donegal.

Malin Head Coast Guard Station received contact that the diver was missing before 4pm on Saturday.

The diver, who is a Canadian national, was part of a group diving around 17 miles north of Fanad Head Lighthouse on Saturday.

The group was taking part in a 65-metre deep dive to shipwrecks.

A specialist dive vessel arrived on site at 2pm yesterday and a number of divers searched the area where the missing diver was last seen.

A further dive, co-ordinated by the specialist vessel, was taking place yesterday evening.

The identity of the recovered body has not yet been confirmed.

Gardaí told that the man's remains have been brought to Letterkenny General Hospital for a post-mortem.
