THE family of a young man who went missing after travelling to Galway for Rag Week has thanked friends and volunteers after his body was found.

Jason McNulty (25) from Swinford in Co Mayo had been last seen at 6am on Wednesday leaving the Connacht Hotel in Renmore. He had been socialising with friends beforehand.

A native of Swinford Co Mayo, Jason had been living in Castlebar in recent times, but came to Galway earlier this week for the city's unofficial student celebration week.

Three days of searches ended Saturday when a body was located on the coastline at Roscam, not far from where Jason went missing.

Concerned family and friends of the student of Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology had launched appeals on Facebook and Twitter, asking people to help find him.

His sister Leonie posted this message on Facebook: "On behalf of myself and my family Id like to thank all those who came to search for Jason over the passed few days.

"Jason was found this afternoon, and we will be bringing him home in the coming days. A big thanks to everyone for their support and their continued support over the days to come. We are truly devastated, R.I.P Jason xx"
