POLICE searching for a missing Irish man in Scotland have found a body.

The man’s body was found in the water shortly after 2pm on Wednesday, at Thornley Dam in Paisley, close to where Donegal man Brian Doherty (25) went missing.

The body has not been formally identified yet.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “At this time we can’t link to the missing man.”

Barry, from Carndonagh, Co Donegal, was last seen in the Glenburn area of Paisley, south west of Glasgow, on July 15.

Mr Doherty’s distraught family fear the worst since the spot where the body was discovered is less than a mile from Mr Doherty’s home in Langcraigs Terrace.

“It was found close to where Barry went missing, and while we’re fearing the worst – we’re still hoping for the best,” Mr Doherty’s sister Cathie Doherty wrote on her Facebook page.

Ms Doherty has been in Scotland helping to circulate photos of her missing brother at transportation hubs there in case he returned to Ireland to visit family or friends.

He went missing shortly after his 25th birthday and hasn’t contacted anybody since.
