Q 'BRAVE but baffling' came the succinct headline, as the dropping of Brian O'Driscoll sparked a worldwide media storm.

Warren Gatland's contentious selection bombshell sparked outrage on Twitter, left seasoned sports reporters bamboozled, and caused a flurry of eye-catching headlines.

It was a "brave, career-defining decision" but one Gatland might live to regret, Robert Kitson of 'The Guardian' reported from Noosa, Australia.

"If Warren Gatland is lucky, Jonathan Davies will have the game of his life and the Kiwi-reared coach will be hailed as a genius. And if not? Suffice to say a whole generation of Wallaby players will love him forever," Kitson wrote.

Former Ireland captain Keith Wood branded it a "terrible mistake" in 'The Daily Telegraph'.

Sky Sports described "shock" at O'Driscoll's omission, while Wallabies wing legend David Campese blamed the changes on Gatland panicking "a bit".
