Blaze at prison

TWO prison officers are recovering after suffering smoke inhalation during a fire at Limerick Prison. The fire occurred at around 11.30pm on Thursday.

The two staff members were taken to University Hospital Limerick. They are believed to be in a stable condition. The blaze was put out about an hour later.

The funeral of a little girl who tragically lost her fight for life on Christmas Day will take place over the weekend. Five-year-old Lucia Cleary from Galway had been critically injured in one of the numerous crashes on the country's motorways over the festive period.

High winds and poor visibility are believed to have led to the three-car collision on the M6 on December 18. With her family at her bedside, Lucia passed away on Wednesday.
