Bishops to pray for the unborn
CATHOLIC bishops are due to hold special prayer services "for the unborn child" this weekend in response to the Dail's decision to pass the abortion bill.
Despite one of the country's most senior clerics making a last-minute appeal for TDs not to act in "co-operation with evil", just five Fine Gael TDs and one Sinn Fein TD voted against the bill. It was passed by 127 votes to 31.
Archbishop of Dublin, Dr Diarmuid Martin, is having a special prayer service in the Pro-Cathedral today at 4.45pm. A spokesman for the church said it would "speak the message of life, regardless of how a particular Government responds".
