Two people have died and a third has been seriously injured in a road crash.

A motorcyclist in his late 20s and an elderly woman travelling in a car died in the collision close to Athy, Co Kildare.

The woman and the injured man, who was the driver of the car, are both aged in their 80s.

All three were taken to Naas General Hospital.

Gardai said the scene of the collision, at Ballycullane on the link road between Athy and the M9 motorway, remains closed for Garda forensic collision investigators.
