Biffo unperturbed by by-election bickering

Aside from the Greens making complete clowns of themselves again, the impending Donegal South-West by-election was also a hot topic.

The Shinners even popped their heads up to lobby for it to be called (in the hope it will take the focus off sex-scandal problems up North).

But the main merriment was to be found in the Taoiseach's corner, where Biffo even managed a smile. FG's director of elections Joe McHugh thanked the Taoiseach for holding off on the announcement: "Because Fine Gael is holding its convention on February 12."

Knowing the proud history of by-election candidates having their campaigns sabotaged by internal enemies, Cowen isn't too worried about the opposition's chances of replacing Pat 'the Cope' Gallagher.

"I'm sure, in the best traditions, the strongest possible candidate will come through."
