Begg warning over Anglo staff
ICTU general secretary Dave Begg has warned Finance Minister Michael Noonan that the unions "will not accept" a situation where ordinary staff from the IBRC or the former Anglo bank are "pitched out on the road".
At a conference yesterday, Begg said that these staff are "people too, with families" and were not responsible for the situation at the toxic bank.
Over 800 staff at the IBRC had their contracts terminated when Mr Noonan liquidated the IBRC late last year.
While some will get contracts with NAMA, other staff are being offered statutory redundancy, namely two weeks' pay per year of service. The staff are seeking the same deal given previously to Anglo staff, of three weeks' pay per year of service plus entitlements, and have threatened industrial action.
