Barrett campaign to go full term despite poll
INDEPENDENT European election candidate Justin Barrett has insisted that his campaign is not in trouble despite only registering 1pc in an opinion poll.
Mr Barrett, who is best known for his anti-abortion campaigning, dismissed the results as flawed and said he has been getting a very positive reaction on the doorsteps around the East constituency where he is running.
A leading member of the Youth Defence anti-abortion group, Mr Barrett said that despite some reports he had "never been run from a doorstep anywhere".
The candidate said he did not believe his 1pc result in the Irish Times/TNS MRBI poll.
Mr Barrett (33) became caught up in controversy during the Nice Treaty campaign when it was revealed that he had close contact with an extreme right-wing party in Germany. Authorities there believed the party displayed "Nazi characteristics".
