There was a poignant moment on stage at the Ifta Awards ceremony as architect Dermot Bannon dedicated his win to Michael Stokes.

Michael (15) stole the heart of the nation when he appeared on the series several years ago.

Tragically, he died last month following an accident.

Presenter Bannon became emotional as he dedicated the factual programme award to the "tiny but tough" teen.

Shay Healy was also honoured at the 2018 Ifta Gala TV awards with a lifetime achievement award.

Comedian Jason Byrne was hosting the annual small-screen awards, broadcast on TG4 this year.

"We'll get through this together," Jason joked. "I only have school Irish but here we go."

Sharon Horgan scooped best female performance. "I'm embarrassed - there's too many good women in that group," she said.
