Irish-made Communion outfits are proving a hit with parents anxious to keep their spending power at home.
With four months to go, savvy parents aren't leaving anything to chance and the last few days of the Christmas school holidays were marked by a strong retail trade in white dresses and scaled-down suits for the boys.
"We have definitely noticed a move back to simplicity this year, with customers opting for more simple, classic looks," said Valerie O'Neill, head of childrenswear at Arnotts, Henry Street, Dublin.
In terms of accessories, the traditional bags, veils, tiaras and umbrellas are still the most sought after.
For the boys, dark colours are popular and three-piece suits are being well received.
