Asthma deaths down by 40pc
THERE were a total of 34 asthma-related deaths last year, the lowest figure since records began, it was revealed yesterday.
It represented a 40pc drop on the 2009 figure. The Asthma Society of Ireland welcomed the dramatic reduction in deaths, as reported by the CSO, but warned that it was too early to ascertain if the decrease was a trend that would continue.
Angela Edghill, chairperson of the society, said: "Any reduction in the number of asthma deaths in Ireland is very welcome news for the 470,000 Irish people living with asthma."
