ASBO warnings issued to adults and children
ALMOST 70 children and adults have been given official warnings - the first step towards being slapped with an ASBO, writes Louise Hogan.
If the offenders ignore the warnings, then gardai will have the power to apply to the district court to hit them with anti-social behaviour orders (ASBOs).
ASBOs, introduced last January, have yet to be used by gardai in the courts. However, 45 adults were issued with behaviour warnings by officers between January and the end of April. they also reprimanded 24 young people between March 1 and April 30.
Michael McLoughlin, from Youth Work Ireland, said it was inevitable that young people would end up being hit with ASBOs.
