Armed siege man dies in hospital

A man at the centre of an armed siege in Dublin has died in hospital.

The man, aged in his 40s, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to hospital following a stand-off with gardai on Wednesday.

The incident happened at Farrenboley Park, Windy Arbour, Dundrum in the south of the city.

Gardai arrived at the scene around the time a gunshot was heard.

There were no shots fired at gardai or anyone else during the incident and d etectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

It is understood the man had a legally held weapon and was known to be a hunter.

The stand-off, which lasted just under two hours, was brought to an end at 5.20pm.

The man was taken by ambulance to St Vincent's Hospital.

A Garda source has described the incident as a personal tragedy.
