Armed Response Unit stood down following negotiations with woman in shop standoff

A GARDA Armed Response Unit has been stood down at the scene of a stand off in Tralee, Co Kerry.

Two garda negotiators had been in discussions with a woman who entered a Halal meat shop on Castle Street.

The shop was evacuated and gardai called to the scene after she refused to leave the premises.

She was brandishing a knife but the weapon has since also been removed from the scene.

The woman has been removed from the scene and no injuries have been reported.

Gardai are now moving freely through the building and paramedics and an ambulance are on stand-by.

The street had been closed for some time with traffic restrictions put in place.

It understood that the street will now be reopened for traffic.

The woman is believed to be from Cork and her family were contacted about the incident.

She entered the shop at about 4pm and refused to leave.

Everybody else evacuated the premises and left the woman inside.
