Archbishop warns of sales fever
ARCHBISHOP Diarmuid Martin of Dublin has urged people not to "get lost in the rush" to the seasonal sales.
He said that by "spending madly" we may get some satisfaction, but ultimately it leaves us empty.
"The great thing about Christmas is those moments when we stop and reflect and have the chance to see childhood again," he said.
"It is the simple things in life that are the most valuable," he added, after celebrating Mass at the Pro-Cathedral.
In his homily at Christ Church Cathedral, Church of Ireland Archbishop Michael Jackson said: "Christianity is concerned with second chances and fresh opportunities."
