Appointments at Irish Independent

Cormac Bourke

Cormac Bourke has been appointed Executive Editor (News) of the Irish Independent. An award-winning journalist, Cormac has led the Independent's dynamic news coverage – which has received numerous nominations in this year's journalism awards – as news editor.

He joined this newspaper in 2007, and previously held the role of Assistant Editor (News).

In his new role, Cormac will oversee news-generation across departments and work to advance INM's 'Digital First' strategy.

Married with two sons, he holds a BA in Journalism from Dublin City University.

Dearbhail McDonald has been appointed Associate Editor of the Irish Independent. As associate editor, she continues as legal editor and also assumes a social leadership role within the title.

Dearbhail is a successful author, an Eisenhower Fellow and regular contributor to broadcast media.

She holds an LLB (Law) from Trinity College, Dublin, and a Master's Degree in Journalism from Dublin City University.

Dearbhail has won a series of awards for her legal affairs coverage, and is a former Young Irish Medical Journalist of the Year.

She sits on the board of Fighting Words, the national creative-writing centre, and is a member of the Law Council of the National University of Ireland, Maynooth.
