A man has his car stolen by a couple when he arranged to meet a prospective buyer for his car.

The incident occurred in Dunshaughlin Co Meath on Sunday evening.

The victim had advertised his car for sale and arranged a meeting with a prospective buyer at the graveyard in Dunshaughlin which is opposite St Seachnall’s National School.

At about 6.20pm he pulled up beside the graveyard in a white Mercedes C220 with a 142-D registration facing in the Dublin direction.

A red Toyota Auris car 05-D registration pulled in behind him and a man approached him from the passenger seat of this car.  This man assaulted the owner of the car and drove the Mercedes off in the Dublin direction.

The alleged culprit is described as being about 5ft11, with short black hair and sallow skin.

The victim then stood in front of the red Toyota and attempted to prevent the female driver from leaving the scene. She is described as being aged in her 30s, of a heavy build with long brown hair.

The woman drove away and the victim was knocked to the ground and received minor injuries.

It is believed that the woman had two children in the car at the time, one of whom is believed to be about 7 years of age.

She followed the Mercedes in the Dublin direction.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses in the wake of the incident.

"Earlier that evening between 4.30pm and 6.15pm number plates bearing 05-D were taken from a car parked at the The Old Forge housing estate, Dunshauglin a short distance away," a spokesman said.
