Apology: Ronan Murtagh
IN our edition of May 7 we published an article regarding a claim brought by Ronan Murtagh in the Employment Appeals Tribunal against his former employers, VenAir.
The article incorrectly stated that defamation proceedings were being taken against Mr Murtagh by 'PQ', after Mr Murtagh broke an agreement and named him at the tribunal.
The article also stated that Mr Murtagh paid no tax on earnings over €181,000 to date since taking up a new job in 2009. This was misleading.
Mr Murtagh gave evidence that these earnings substantially related to 2010 and no liability to tax has yet arisen.
The article said Mr Murtagh is currently paid into an off-shore account in Liechtenstein and we accept that this statement is incorrect.
We are happy to clarify these matters and apologise to Mr Murtagh.
