Aoibhinn and RTE will not be parting company
BROADCASTER Miriam O'Callaghan is due to return to her Sunday slot, but RTE bosses are planning to keep stand-in Aoibhinn Ni Shuilleabhain on the Radio One schedule for the remainder of the year.
Mayo-born Ni Shuilleabhain (29) began broadcasting 'Aoibhinn & Company', an hour-long lifestyle show featuring in depth guest interviews, on July 14.
It was her first RTE show and ran for 10 weeks, covering O'Callaghan's 'Miriam Meets' weekend slot for the summer.
O'Callaghan told the Irish Independent that she was unable to balance a Sunday programme, while also filling in for John Murray on his weekday show and co-anchoring 'Prime Time' weeknights. But with Murray back at Radio One, O'Callaghan (53) is due to make her weekend comeback with a brand new series 'Sunday with Miriam' on November 17.
A source told the Irish Independent that although Ni Shuilleabhain, girlfriend of 'Late Late Show' presenter Ryan Tubridy, no longer has a regular slot, station bosses are keen to keep the former Rose of Tralee contestant on the airwaves for the foreseeable future.
"Aoibhinn is a strong female voice and she's great on radio, everyone was really pleased with her programme," the source said.
"She'll front a number of one-off projects and documentaries, covering an array of topics. There might be more in the mix for her next year too."
