THE Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) is searching for an independent analyst to help it to assess costs, pay levels and the culture at RTE.

According to tender documents, the independent analyst will help with a wide ranging five-year review of TG4 and RTE. Among the responsibilities that the successful bidder will be tasked with is ensuring that the stations are providing value for money.

Recently, RTE's director general, Noel Curran, acknowledged that the station's best-known faces were overpaid, as it faced a €60m deficit this year.

"If pay levels come up, it's something that the review will look at. It's wide-ranging," a BAI spokesman said.
