AN Taisce is to launch legal action against the decision to grant planning permission for the Corrib gas pipeline.
The heritage group said yesterday that allowing the north Mayo pipeline to go ahead would have implications "far beyond" Corrib and would have "major repercussions" on Ireland's implementation of European directives.
The move follows An Bord Pleanala's decision on Tuesday that the 9km onshore segment of the pipeline could go ahead.
The planning authority said the pipeline "would help safeguard the energy security of the State, would not seriously injure the amenities of the area, would not be prejudicial to public health or safety, and would not be likely to have a significant effects on the environment".
Calling for a judicial review, An Taisce said it was "disappointed" with the decision.
