Almost 4,000 people appear in court as part of Operation Fiacla
Almost 7,000 people have been arrested in the past 18 months under Operation Fiacla, which was set up to target individuals and criminal gangs involved in burglaries all over the country.
Almost 4,000 of them have been charged and brought before the courts.
The figures were released in advance of a two-day crime conference which begins in Templemore, Co Tipperary, later today.
CSO figures released last month showed that the burglary rate across the country had fallen by 9pc, a reduction Justice Minister Alan Shatter attributed to the success of Operation Fiacla.
