All-in immigration body set up
A NEW body has been set up to take overall charge of a range of asylum, immigration and visa issues that are currently spread across a number of departments.
Director of the Irish Nationality and Immigration Service (INIS) will be Pat Folan who is assistant secretary in the immigration and asylum area in the Department of Justice.
The INIS will incorporate the current structures dealing with asylum, immigration and citizenship with the visa section of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
It will also work with the Department of Enterprise and Employment on the issuing of work permits.
Mr Folan was appointed to his current post five years ago to tackle the asylum crisis.
