All bets on a 'community fund'
A move is under way to fund community projects with unclaimed winnings from bets, games and lotteries.
The fund would also help people who are educationally or socially disadvantaged.
A bill to set up the fund has been placed before the Dail by former sports minister John O'Donoghue.
Mr O'Donoghue said: "Every year, hundreds of thousands of euro in unclaimed gambling winnings are remaining with bookmakers and lottery companies. Rather than going towards their profits, this legislation would ensure the money was used for the good of the community."
