Now that Joan Burton has stepped down as leader of the Labour party, speculation is rife as to who will succeed her in the position.

Deputy leader Alan Kelly is set to clear up rumours about his own political ambitions with an appearance on The Late Late Show this week.

The Tipperary TD is expected to seek nomination and enter the race for the leadership, going up against former minister of state Sean Sherlock.

Wexford TD Brendan Howlin is also understood to have his eye on the role, but is not willing to enter a leadership battle.

Mr Kelly will join Ryan Tubridy this Friday to review his party’s dismal General Election performance and share his views on the housing crisis, the Irish Water debate, and the Labour party’s future.
