An air and sea search for a missing swimmer off the coast of Donegal will resume on Wednesday morning.

The missing man is a 28-year-old soldier who was with a group of soldiers enjoying an afternoon at the beach.

A second soldier who also got into difficulty was able to make it back to the shoreline in Bundoran, Co Donegal.

The RNLI says a new search will begin at dawn.

Bundoran RNLI crews launched their search just after 6pm today.

The Coast Guard Sligo 118 helicopter has also been involved in the search.

The helicopter had re-fuelled and returned to continue in the search operation.

The incident happened after a warm and sunny afternoon in the popular seaside town.

A Malin Head Coast Guard spokesman said: "Bundoran RNLI and the Sligo 118 helicopter have been involved in the search since 6pm. A new search will begin in the morning.”
