PRESIDENT Mary McAleese wants to go back to college to continue to study law after she finishes her term in November.
Speaking to students at the Philosophical Society in Trinity College last night, she said in response to a question about her future plans that she will keep out of the public eye and go back to university.
Society president Declan Meehan presented Mrs McAleese with the William Molyneux Medal at the event.
The inaugural award was given to the President for her outstanding contribution to Irish politics and society.
It is named after the founder of the Philosophical Society, who began the group in 1683.
Afterwards, she said all through her presidency she had kept up her interest in certain aspects of law.
"Within university life there are different types of life and student life is the best life at university," the President said.
"I intend to keep my head down like all good students do."
