SINN Fein leader Gerry Adams has said he will not attend the funeral of IRA bomber and hunger striker Dolours Price today.

Ms Price (61) claimed last year that Mr Adams gave the order to execute mother-of-10 Jean McConville, who was murdered by the IRA and buried in Co Louth in 1972. Mr Adams has denied any involvement in the murder.

The Louth TD confirmed he would not be present at the funeral, which takes place at St Agnes's Church in Andersonstown in Belfast.

However, Mr Adams said: "Dolours was a long time in prison in England, but she also was force-fed for over 200 days and when you consider her own personal trials and tribulations, none of what has occurred in terms of her parting ways with Sinn Fein and what she has said should diminish her life," he told RTE's 'This Week'.

"...Dolours did make certain allegations, I have denied them and my sense of her passing is one of loss and also of a sense of solidarity with her family," he added.

Ms Price is survived by two sons, Oscar and Danny.
