Actor Twomey had a 'unique comedic talent'
Actor Michael Twomey, who starred in Cha and Miah sketches on RTÉ's 'Hall's Pictorial Weekly', had a unique yet universally appealing comedic talent, mourners at his funeral mass were told.
Twomey (84) passed away at the Bon Secours Hospital in Cork on Wednesday. He is survived by his wife Marie, and the couple's three children Laura, Des and Sharon.
Well-known playwright Declan Hassett paid tribute to Twomey at his requiem mass at St Michael's Church in Blackrock, Cork.
He said when Twomey appeared as Miah on television in the 1970s, audiences were initially more struck by his unique Cork accent rather than his words.
"People laughed first at the Cork accent but then they recognised the timing and delivery and the writing and the universality of the humour," he said.
