Accountant jailed over €80,000 theft

AN accountant has been jailed after stealing €80,000 from her employer to make payments to a BMW dealership and get music lessons for her child.

A judge said he had no choice except to jail Alix Long (35) despite her efforts to repay the money, which she also used to settle debts and pay a speeding ticket.

The directors of Snap Printing had to use their own money to keep the company going after the theft was uncovered, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court was told.

Long, of The Crescent, Earls Court, Kill, admitted stealing €79,371.81 from the firm between April 28, 2004 and January 1, 2007.

Judge Martin Nolan imposed a three-year term, with 16 months suspended.
