McGuinness refuses to say which way she will vote
Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness is refusing to declare how she will vote in the forthcoming referendum on repealing the Eighth Amendment.
Ms McGuinness has been contacted by the Irish Independent several times over a couple weeks, and has declined to answer whether she will vote in favour or against changes to Ireland's abortion regime.
The former candidate for the Irish presidency is the only one of the four Government members of the European Parliament who is refusing to disclose her position.
Former head of the GAA Sean Kelly, who is also a Fine Gael MEP for the South constituency, said he is voting Yes on Friday.
"I think the Constitution isn't the place for it [abortion]," he told the Irish Independent.
"I've listened to everybody's viewpoints and I've done my own thinking; and the legislation we have now is not adequate to take into account the need for compassion."
