Abbey Theatre management to meet with signatories over 'concerns'
Management at the Abbey Theatre have asked to meet with representatives from the more than 300 signatories of a letter sent to Culture Minister Josepha Madigan outlining their "concerns" about the theatre.
The letter was published yesterday, and was signed by more than 300 actors, directors and playwrights.
The signatories include household names Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Aidan Gillen, Sarah Greene and Peter Coonan.
The letter expressed "concern" at the changing artistic model at the Abbey, claiming there were fewer actors directly employed by the theatre and fewer in house productions causing "devastation amongst our ranks".
Ms Madigan acknowledged the letter last night, saying she was aware of management at the theatre asking to meet with representatives to discuss the concerns and she encourage both sides to engage with the other.
