A political first as minister is ousted by tweet

Willie O'Dea may now hold the dubious distinction of being the first politician to be tweeted out of office.

Green Party Senator Dan Boyle's online Twitter account caused major ructions in politics.

On Tuesday night, following the motion of no confidence vote in the Dail, Mr Boyle wrote: "Not happy with what happened today. Believe we bounced into supporting motion. Next week would have been fine."

Blogger Suzy Byrne, who runs website 'Maman Poulet', said the 'tweets' were probably the first example, in Ireland at least, of a politician's fate changing in the immediate aftermath of something said on Twitter.
