A meeting of minds at science Olympics
THEY call it the Olympics of Science -- and Dublin has the honour of hosting it for four days this week.
The Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF) is Europe's biggest general science meeting and it is taking place in the Liffeyside Convention Centre until Sunday.
The Government's chief scientific adviser Dr Patrick Cunningham beat off competition from other leading cities to capture the prize for Dublin in 2012. To celebrate the honour of hosting this prestigious international science event, the year-long Dublin City of Science Festival programme was developed. City of Science -- which involves 160 events and activities in Dublin and across the country -- includes art exhibitions, theatre pieces, film festivals, treasure hunts, science buskers, interactive installations, experiments, public talks and workshops.
This week's ESOF brings together some of the top scientific brains from all over the world. More than 500 speakers will attend around 150 different sessions covering major global scientific challenges, including health, food and climate change.
