Hundreds of superheroes invaded the capital yesterday for the giant Dublin Comic Con convention.

Superman, Captain America and Spiderman rubbed shoulder with characters from Star Wars, Deadpool and countless other comic book movies and video games.

They travelled from all over the country to show off their costumes and mix with like-minded fans.

Casey Fitzgerald (11), alias Wonder Woman, travelled from Cavan with big brother Josh (13) dressed as Deadpool.

Proud mum Tracey said: "Casey has cerebral palsy but everyone today is looking at her costume and not at her disability so it is great for her

"It's great to be involved. You can be yourself - and not be yourself!"

Ryan Glancy (21) from Ballymun, Dublin, dressed as McCree from the Overwatch video game, said: "I have been here a few times and, to be honest, I got into it because I did not have a lot of self- esteem.

"This saved me a bit because I have made new friends, met a lot of nice people and I have built up my confidence.

"There is a certain joy in dressing up because you feel like a celebrity for the day."

Dublin Comic Con started on Friday night at Dublin's Convention Centre and runs until 6pm today.
