A child injured after brick was thrown through window

An eight-year-old girl has been injured after a brick was thrown through a window at a house in Dundonald.

The child, who was asleep in her bed when the attack happened at 5.30am on Saturday, was taken to hospital but her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The same house, on Brooklands Drive, was the target of a separate attack last Sunday in which two windows were smashed and the windscreen of a car damaged.

Police are believed to be treating the incidents as hate crime.

The Nigerian family is now looking to move out of the house.

Alliance East Belfast MLA Chris Lyttle, who condemned those responsible for the attacks, said the party was helping them find alternative accommodation.

"This family is making a positive working contribution to our society and their children are part of local sports and community clubs," Mr Lyttle added.

"I have met the family and expressed the shared outrage of the good people in this local community and church representatives that they have been targeted with such a horrific attack."
