6,700 Electric Ireland customers affected by credit card scam
Customers from a third Irish company have been affected by the credit card scam at Loyaltybuild.
Electric Ireland has now joined SuperValu and AXA Insurance on the victim list.
It is believed around 6,700 customers are affected, who participated in a loyalty scheme run in 2007/2008.
But the Irish Payment Services Organisation said initial results from a review carried out by all Irish banks issuing cards had shown so far that no fraud has taken place.
The IPSO said cards issued between January 2011 and February 2012 only had been affected. Most of those would since have expired or been replaced in the interim.
It advised cardholders not to be concerned about their accounts as they would not be liable for any fraud that might occur as a result of this incident.
It said cardholders should monitor their accounts on a daily basis either online or over the phone and then report any unusual activity to the card issuing bank.
IPSO said at this stage cardholders, who believed they might have been affected by the incident, should have little cause for concern.
